Lufthansa Airlines Baggage Policy

Lufthansa Carry-On Allowance:

- Your carry-on baggage should be at most 8 kg (18 pounds).
- Your carry-on baggage must not increase the allowed proportions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm ( 22x16x9 inches )
- Passengers traveling with a First or Business class fare type are allowed to bring two carry-on bags for free.
- Passengers traveling with Economy or Premium Economy fare types are permitted to bring one carry-on bag free of cost.
- All carry-on bags must fit in the bin over your head or the seat before you.
Lufthansa Checked Baggage Allowance:
You are not allowed to carry checked baggage in the cabin. It is delivered to the airline during check-in to be stored in an area inaccessible to the passengers. Intercontinental Flight at Lufthansa
If you have booked an Intercontinental flight at Lufthansa Airlines, then you are allowed to carry the following:
- One checked bag weighing at most 23 kg (50 pounds) free of cost if you have an Economy class ticket.
- Two checked bags, each weighing not more than 23 kg (50 pounds), free of charge if you have a Premium Economy Ticket.
- Two checked bags, each weighing up to 32 kg (70 pounds), free of charge if you travel with a Business class ticket.
- Three checked bags, each weighing up to 32 kg (70 pounds), free of charge if you are traveling with a First Class ticket
Frequent Traveler with Lufthansa
If you are a frequent traveler with Lufthansa, then you are allowed to carry the following:
- Two bags, each weighing 23 kg, for free in an Economy or Premium Economy Class.
- Two bags, each weighing 32 kg, for free in a Business class.
- Three bags, each weighing 32 kg, for free in a First Class.
European Flight at Lufthansa
If you have booked a Lufthansa Airlines flight to Europe, then you are allowed to carry the following:
- One checked bag weighing at most 23 kg for free if you are traveling with an Economy classic/ Flex fare type.
- Two checked bags, each weighing up to 32 kg, free of cost if you are traveling in a Business class.
However, suppose you are a frequent traveler or Senator/ HON Circle Member/ Star Alliance Gold Member. In that case, you can carry two free checked bags up to 23 kg of weight for an Economy Classic and Flex fare type and two free checked bags up to 32 kg of weight if you are traveling in a Business class.
Lufthansa Overweight Baggage Fees
Overweight baggage fees are levied on bags exceeding the allowed weight limit per passenger. You need to pay the Lufthansa overweight baggage fees according to their policy, as mentioned below, for bags weighing 24-32 kg, regardless of the travel class.
- You need to pay a charge of USD 70 for a flight within Europe.
- You need to pay a charge of USD 150 for Intercontinental flights.
Lufthansa Excess and Oversize Baggage Fees
You also need to pay the Lufthansa oversize baggage fees if the size of your bag exceeds the allowed size of 158 linear cm (width + height + depth)
- You need to pay an oversized charge of USD 150 if you travel with an Economy or Premium Economy fare to Europe.
- You must pay an overweight + oversize charge of USD 220 if you travel with an Economy or Premium Economy fare to Europe.
- You must pay an oversized charge of USD 300 if you are traveling with an Economy or Premium Economy fare on an Intercontinental flight.
- You must pay an overweight + oversize charge of USD 450 if you travel with an Economy or Premium Economy fare on an Intercontinental flight.
- You need to pay an oversized charge of USD 150 if you travel with a Business Class fare to Europe.
- You need to pay an oversized charge of USD 300 if you travel with a Business Class fare on an Intercontinental flight.
Sports Equipment on Lufthansa
You can carry a sports bag for free as it is qualified as a free baggage allowance, but you must register it 24 hours before the scheduled departure. In your sports bag, you can carry one piece of Ski or snowboarding equipment, and the bag's weight should not exceed the permitted limit depending on your travel class; otherwise, you will have to pay the overweight charges.
CPAP Devices on Lufthansa
CPAP devices are allowed to be carried on the Lufthansa Airlines flight for the convenience of the passengers but under certain conditions of the airlines, as mentioned below.
- CPAP devices are allowed only to passengers using FAA-approved personal respirators/ ventilators.
- You are permitted to carry assistive devices with batteries, including CPAP devices.
- The batteries of your CPAP devices must be non-spillable and have power up to 150% of the maximum flight duration.
